O'Shea of the 19th Ward informs residents that the Polar Plunge Chicago will be held on March 1 at North Avenue Beach, and that there will be no garbage collection on Monday, March 2, but recycling will be collected. The office will be closed in observance of Casimir Pulaski Day, and residents are advised to ensure their carts are accessible for the March 3 garbage pickup. Additional announcements include a free online aviation career course starting March 3, the Illinois Secure Choice retirement program, and employment opportunities posted on the 19th Ward website.

On Sunday, March 1st, Special Children's Charities will host the Polar Plunge Chicago. The event takes place at North Avenue Beach, 1601 N. Lake Shore Drive. Please visit specialchildrenscharities.org for more information, to register, or to make a donation.


On Monday, March 2nd, there will be NO garbage collection. However, there WILL BE a recycling collection. All garbage will be serviced on Tuesday, March 3rd. Residents should ensure all black and blue refuse carts are accessible and, once collected, please remove carts from the curb. If your garbage or recycling has not been picked up, please email me at mattoshea@the19thward or call the 19th Ward Office at (773) 238-8766. 


In observance of Casimir Pulaski Day, our office will be closed on Monday, March 2nd. I hope all residents enjoy a happy and safe holiday.

Free City Colleges Aviation Course

The Chicago Department of Aviation is offering a free, online aviation career course this spring in partnership with City Colleges of Chicago.


The program is designed to introduce participants to careers in the aviation and airport industry, and for the first time, members of the CDA senior leadership team will serve as guest lecturers.


Please help spread the word to colleagues, partners, friends, and community members who may be interested in exploring opportunities in aviation. The first class is Tuesday, March 3rd.

Illinois Secure Choice

Illinois Secure Choice is a state-facilitated retirement program that makes it easy to save for retirement. Since it launched in 2018, the program has brought retirement savings access to workers in every county across Illinois. Not only is Illinois Secure Choice open to employees who work for an eligible employer, the program is available to anyone who wants to enroll on their own and start saving. The program is open to employers who have at least 5 employees in every quarter of the previous year, have been in operations for at least 2 years, and do not offer or contribute to a qualified retirement plan.
