6th Ward E-Newsletter - June 2026

Relevance: 2/10

Summary

6th Ward Alderman William Hall’s June 2026 newsletter focuses on upcoming community engagement rather than specific zoning/development or budget votes: it announces a monthly Community-Wide Meeting to discuss the Summer Safety Plan, transportation updates, and other ward issues, and a “Budget Engagement Roundtable” on June 16 at Kennedy-King College. It also highlights ward support services and local developments/events, including new businesses at 75th Street, the launch of Senior City Hall (May 4), HomeGrown homeownership assistance applications opening June 8, and several past events (a Walgreens press conference, Officer Thomas Wortham IV honorary street dedication, job fair, and Class of 2026 celebrations).

6th Ward family,

As we move through this year, I am proud of the progress we are making together in the 6th Ward. From improving public safety and infrastructure to advancing economic development and community partnerships, we continue to take meaningful steps forward.

75th Street has two new businesses:

Root

Twisted Egg Roll

While we may not always agree on every issue, we all share a common goal: creating a safer, cleaner, and stronger community for our residents and families.

When we come together, engage in constructive dialogue, and focus on solutions, we can accomplish great things.

Thank you for your continued involvement, support, and commitment to the 6th Ward. The progress we are making belongs to all of us, and our best days are still ahead.

Join me this Saturday for our monthly Community-Wide Meeting. We'll discuss our Summer Safety Plan, transportation updates, upcoming events, and other important issues impacting the 6th Ward.

I hope you'll come out, stay informed, and share your voice as we continue working together to strengthen our community.

6th Ward Community Calendar

This year, we’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. Take a look at our 2026 Community Calendar to stay connected and engaged with us throughout the year.

Walgreens Press Conference | May 4

Following Walgreens' announcement that it would close its doors, we held a press conference to advocate for residents and address the growing issue of pharmacy deserts. We remain committed to expanding access to medications, pharmacy services, and healthcare resources for our community.

Senior Game Day at Mather | May 6

Residents ages 55 and better gathered at Mather at The Cov for an afternoon of games, food, music, and fellowship. With entertainment from DJ King George, the event brought neighbors together for fun, friendly competition, and community connection.

Officer Thomas Wortham IV Honorary Street Dedication | May 20

Family, friends, community members, and law enforcement officers came together to honor the life and legacy of Officer Thomas Wortham IV during a special honorary street renaming ceremony. His service, sacrifice, and lasting impact on our community will never be forgotten.

Career & Job Fair | May 27

In partnership with the Capital One Shine Bright Center, we hosted a Career and Job Fair connecting residents with employers, workforce organizations, and career resources. Thank you to everyone who participated as we continue creating pathways to employment and economic opportunity throughout the 6th Ward.

Celebrating the Class of 2026 | May 28

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2026! It was an honor to celebrate students from Barbara A. Sizemore Academy and Simeon Career Academy as they reached this important milestone and prepared for the next chapter of their journeys.

Wellness Wednesdays

During this week's Wellness Wednesday, we encouraged residents to make movement part of their daily routine. Whether it's taking a walk, stretching throughout the day, or choosing the stairs, small healthy habits can have a lasting impact on your overall well-being.

A Summer in the 6th Ward

6th Ward Senior City Hall
