Thriving 21 Weekly Bulletin
October 9, 2026

Dear Neighbors,
It has been a joy to see our community come together these past few weeks. From Sista Strut, one of my favorite events supporting breast cancer awareness, to the opening of the new Red Line Extension community office on 111th Street, there is plenty to celebrate. Our Bears tailgate brought neighbors together for football, house music, and good company—and a Bears win made it even better!
We’re keeping that community spirit going with two upcoming opportunities to connect with helpful resources. Join us Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Chicago Urban League, 8331 S. Stewart, for shredding, prescription disposal, electronic recycling, and clothing donations.
We’re also hosting Property Tax Assistance on Tuesday, October 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Third Baptist Church, 1551 W. 95th Street. Residents can get help reviewing exemptions, completing applications, and understanding the appeals process.
| | |
Our office will be closed Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
There will be no City garbage collection on Monday. Collection will take place Tuesday through Friday. Please put your black garbage carts out Monday night and keep them accessible throughout the week, as pickup may occur outside your regular collection day.
Visit chicagorecycles.org to check your recycling service area and collection schedule.

You’ll find more details and highlights throughout this bulletin. Thank you to the neighbors and community partners who continue to show up for the 21st Ward. I look forward to seeing you soon!
We are Better Together.
— Alderman Ronnie L. Mosley

New Red Line Extension Office Opens in Roseland
On October 2, I joined fellow elected officials, community partners, organizations, and residents to celebrate the opening of the CTA’s Red Line Extension Community Office at 401 W. 111th Street. Neighbors now have a nearby place to speak directly with CTA staff about construction, project updates, and career and small business opportunities.
The Red Line Extension will bring service from the existing 95th Street terminal to 130th Street, adding four accessible stations—including one near 111th Street. For Far South Side residents, this investment means better connections to jobs, schools, and destinations across Chicago.
The office is open Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. I encourage residents to stop in, ask questions, and learn how they can benefit from the opportunities ahead.

Bears Tailgate: Bringing Neighbors Together
Our Bears tailgate gave neighbors a chance to gather, enjoy house music, cheer on the team, and spend time together right here in our community. It was great to see familiar faces and connect with residents over a shared love of Chicago football and music.
Shoutout to DJ Greg Winfield for organizing this event and DJ Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, the King of House, for helping us kick off our first tailgate, alongside DJ E, Jammin’ John, Eric Martin, Sharon Amor, Craig Loftis, and DJ Emanuel Pippen for bringing the music and keeping our community dancing!
These gatherings help us build relationships beyond our everyday routines and enjoy the community we call home. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day special. The Bears brought home a win, but seeing our neighbors come together was the best part!

Sista Strut: Showing Up for Our Sisters
I joined neighbors, survivors, families, and supporters at the Kroc Center for Sista Strut, one of my favorite community events. This annual gathering raises awareness about breast cancer among women of color, connects people with community resources, and emphasizes the importance of early detection. Donations benefit Sisters Network Chicago, an organization supporting Black breast cancer survivors.
It was meaningful to stand alongside people celebrating survivorship, supporting loved ones, and honoring those we have lost. Thank you to iHeart Radio for hosting a great event every year, the Kroc center for the invite, and everyone who showed up with love and encouragement. That support matters long after the event ends.
