| | Dear Neighbor,
This past weekend, I traveled to Washington, DC, with some of my colleagues in the Latino Caucus to meet with Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, as well as Representatives Delia Ramirez and Chuy Garcia, to discuss the variety of issues impacting our communities locally and across the country, as well as intergovernmental strategies to support our city. We talked about how to improve affordability, support small businesses, protect the rights of workers and immigrants, and more. |

| On Wednesday, my office hosted a Community Driven Zoning and Development meeting for a proposed development at 3458 W Belmont. The applicant is proposing to rezone a vacant lot from the existing C1-1 District to a B2-2 District to build a 3-story (with basement) residential building with 3 dwelling units and 3 parking spaces in a garage near the Belmont Blue Line station. I appreciate the neighbors who came out to learn more about the proposal and make their voices heard. Now, my office is collecting feedback from neighbors in the area until Friday, May 8th. If you would like to weigh in on this zoning change, please fill out this form.
Yesterday, I attended Palenque Logan Square Neighborhood Association’s 64th Annual Congress. This year’s congress included a powerful artistic performance from local immigrant mothers who retold the stories of pain, strength, and solidarity from last year’s violent immigration enforcement period across the northwest side. We recommitted ourselves to continue protecting our families by strengthening our rapid response networks. |

| Tomorrow, my office will be continuing our Earth Day activities by co-hosting a tree planting event in Hermosa alongside Openlands, 26th Ward Alder Jessie Fuentes, and Cook County Commissioner Jessica Vasquez. If you see our volunteer teams out, be sure to say hello!
As we celebrate Earth Day locally, delegations from across the world are gathering in Santa Marta, Colombia, at the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative Conference to discuss coordinating a global effort to move away from fossil fuels. I extend a hand of solidarity to those who are gathered to help chart a new path forward of environmental sustainability and harmony for all life on Earth.
Next Friday, May 1st, is International Workers Day. I invite you to join thousands of Chicagoans on the streets as we unite with people across the nation in building a government that puts the needs of workers over the greed of billionaires.
Please join me and community members with Palenque LSNA, the Hana Center, Latino Union, and Organized Communities Against Deportation for a rally next Friday at 10:00 am at the Logan Square Centennial Monument at 3150 W Logan Boulevard. The main May Day rally will take place at 1:00 pm at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph. |

| Lastly, the final touches to the Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape project are being completed. This week, the identifier sign for our new pedestrian plaza, La Placita, was installed! The sign design was inspired by the 1968 Mexico City Olympics logo. The sign was also proudly made locally in the 35th Ward by metal fabricator D5 Design & Metal Fabrication. |
