The plaza will turn Catalpa Avenue into a beautiful public space where the community can gather together, host events, and shop the Andersonville Farmer’s Market during the summer season. So many members of our community have been instrumental at every phase of the development of this project, and I am so proud that we are finally bringing the community’s vision into reality.
I am also deeply proud to name Andersonville’s first pedestrian plaza in Elise’s honor, as a tribute to the way she used public spaces to bring people together and a reminder for all of us to continue her legacy in fighting for a Chicago where Black and Brown Trans people can live and thrive.
We hope you’re able to join us to celebrate Andersonville’s first pedestrian plaza, and honor our sister, Elise!
In the meantime, you can learn more about the project on our website.
Yours in Service and Community,

Andre Vasquez
