Dear Neighbors,

 

Our office has been notified of an emergency change to the Department of Water Management’s Main Replacement Project on Lincoln Avenue. Please see below for more detailed information including contact information for both the project manager and the engineer.

 

Location and timeframe: N. Lincoln Avenue between W. Diversey Parkway and W. Wrightwood Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, August 10th with a tentative completion date of October 6th, 2026, weather and materials permitting.

Project Scope: The Department of Water Management’s contractor, Pan-Oceanic Engineering Co., will install approximately 2,776 feet of new 8-inch water main and complete service connections within the project area. Following the water main installation, the project will include the replacement of lead service lines for properties within the limits of the newly installed water main. Restoration will follow, including full-width street resurfacing along with repair of damaged parkway and sidewalk.

 

The water main was originally planned to be installed in the parking lane. However, during construction, an existing underground electric duct was discovered in the planned location. In order to proceed with the project, the water main had to be relocated closer to the center of Lincoln Avenue. Because of this change, the new location of the water main will not allow traffic to safely travel along Lincoln Avenue for the remainder of construction.

 

Traffic detours: 

  • Traffic traveling northbound on Lincoln: Turn east onto W. Wrightwood Avenue, then north on N. Sheffield Avenue, and west onto W. Diversey Parkway to reconnect with Lincoln.

  • Traffic traveling southbound on Lincoln: Turn east onto W. Diversey Parkway, then south on N. Sheffield Avenue, and west onto W. Wrightwood Avenue to reconnect with Lincoln.

This is an evolving situation and we will continue to keep the community informed, sharing updates and additional information as we receive it from DWM. 

We recognize that this closure will create significant disruption for the surrounding residential and business community and impact traffic flow in the area. Every effort will be made to expedite the project and minimize inconvenience to the community.
