Dear John,
Last night's severe thunderstorm resulted in a lot of damage to trees and property around Chicago. We are expecting another round of storms today. According to ABC News, rain will begin midafternoon, and the worst of the storm will be between 4 pm and 10 pm.
Residents should seek shelter during the storm. Please check in on seniors and neighbors with disabilities in case they could use assistance. Please make sure to secure all patio furniture and umbrellas or any other items that might be a risk. If trees fall during the storm or after, please remember to call our office or directly call or put it into 311. My Ward Sup and I have also been going around the ward surveying and moving what we can.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) will continue to address blocked roadways, downed trees, and other storm-related hazards across the city. As of this newsletter, they have received over 5,000 service requests through the 311 system. Crews have been deployed citywide and are working diligently to clear streets and restore safe passage as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience as they work through it. Please be prepared that it could take several days to catch up to all the requests. Priority is given to trees that have been uprooted, trees that have fallen on houses/cars, and trees that are blocking streets. You may see them move debris to the parkway; this will be removed after they clear the streets and damaged property.
ComEd is closely monitoring the thunderstorm system. Heavy rain with strong winds over 60+ mph are expected and they have adjusted their staffing levels to address possible issues. Please call 1-800-EDISON1, go to ComEd.com, or use the ComEd Mobile App to report outages. Again, all crews are doing their best to address all outages.
