1st Ward Storm Updates

1st Ward Newsletter | June 11, 2026

Dear neighbors,

Following yesterday's severe storms, the Department of Streets and Sanitation continues to address blocked roadways, downed trees, and other storm-related hazards across the city. DSS has received more than 5,000 service requests through the 311 system.

Crews have been deployed citywide and are working diligently to clear streets and restore safe passage as quickly as possible. Given the volume of requests, we ask for your continued patience as teams work through the backlog.

Weather forecasts indicate that additional rounds of severe weather are expected today, with one system anticipated this afternoon and another this evening.

What you can do:

  • Report Tree Emergencies to 311: Continue reporting storm-related issues through 311, as doing so helps DSS track, prioritize, and respond to requests as efficiently as possible. Please do not submit duplicate requests. Report a tree emergency here. Take photos of the damage to their home or property as well as any items destroyed for assessment and insurance claims.

  • Report a Power Outage: Residents can report a power outage to ComEd here or text OUT to 2-6-6-3-3. If you see a downed power line, do not approach. Call ComEd immediately at 1-800-334-7661.

  • Conserve Water: Reducing water use during and after the storm helps prevent flooding and protect water quality. Delay showers and baths, flush less frequently, and wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine.

  • Stay Informed: Residents are encouraged to download the Chicago OEMC App for alerts, safety tips and weather information. The app is available through the Apple App and Google Play stores or visit Chicago.gov/OEMC. The National Weather Service of Chicago's X account is also providing continuous storm coverage and updates.

Stay safe,

Alderman La Spata
