Email from 19th Ward Office

Dear Chicago,

ï»ż

Throughout February, the 19th Ward Office and local businesses are collaborating to support the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's Get Behind the Vest Campaign. Today, Tuesday, February 17th, a portion of sales at both Americanos (11060 S. Western Ave.) and S & T Provisions (3804 W. 111th St.) will benefit the Get Behind the Vest campaign. Please mention the promotion or show the flyer below to ensure you are included in the fundraiser.

Each Chicago Police Officer is provided a new bulletproof vest when they graduate from the Academy. Over time, these vests break down and need to be replaced. Through the Get Behind the Vest Campaign, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation purchases new bulletproof vests to help protect the brave men and women of the Chicago Police Department.

Future Eat & Earn dates: Tuesday, February 24th and Thursday, February 26th

On Monday, February 16th through Friday, February 20th, come fill up your tank at Shell Gas Station, 2632 W. 111th St. (formerly Kean Gas Station), and 15 cents for every gallon pumped will be donated to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's Get Behind the Vest initiative. Shell has generously offered to donate five cents for every gallon of gas pumped to this important cause. Two generous donors have agreed to match the donation to support this worthy cause.

This Thursday, February 19th, I am excited to partner with the Barraco family to host Get Behind the Vest: A Night at Barraco’s. This event offers another opportunity for 19th Ward residents to come out and show their support for Chicago Police officers and lend support to the Get Behind the Vest campaign. Join me this Thursday from 7:00-9:00 pm at Barraco’s Mount Greenwood, 3047 W. 111th St. This event will feature State Representative Mary Gill, Nick Barraco, Fr. Dan Brandt and me as guest bartenders. Please come out and help us make this inaugural event a success!

On Friday, February 20th, I will be pumping gas at Shell from 1:00-3:00pm, supporting this effort. Please stop by Shell during the week of February 16th and fill your tank in support of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department.

On Saturday, February 21st, please tune in to WGN Radio 720 AM to participate in the Vest-a-Thon Fundraiser from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm in support of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Listeners who call in with donations will have the opportunity to win great prizes, including Chicago sports team memorabilia, and much more. Please see the flyer below.

On Sunday, February 22nd, I will host our 12th Annual Get Behind the Vest Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm at Saint John Fisher School Kane Hall (10220 S Washtenaw Ave). The Get Behind the Vest Pancake Breakfast has raised over $760,000 to date. Please see the flyer below.

Thank you in advance for your ongoing support of this annual campaign.

Sincerely,

ï»ż

Matthew J. O'Shea
